“The people in power have created an obesity epidemic.” ~ Robert Atkins
Almost one third of Americans are obese.
This statistic comes from an annual Gallup survey. They measured BMI (height / weight). Although this is a flawed way to measure obesity, it is useful to compare trends. This year’s numbers were almost 10% higher than 5 years ago. We aren’t getting any thinner.
There are many reasons for this.
- Easy access to cheap food. Cheap food tends to be high in sugar and refined carbs. Both lead to weight gain.
- Sitting too much at home and work.
- Stress in modern life.
On top of this, we are constantly bombarded by media to eat more. Have you noticed the number of food commercials? There are even more food ads than ads for drugs. That’s a lot. It’s not a coincidence. Most of the food being advertised will ultimately lead to illness. And then you get the drugs.
The result is the epidemic of obesity. But that’s a symptom, not the ultimate problem. Obesity is a marker of deeper problems. Diabetes, heart disease and cancer are among these.
In addition, digestive problems, breathing issues joint pain, and low energy all come with obesity. It’s not anything you’d sign up for.
I assume you don’t want to deal with any of these issues.
But what can you do about it?
Although exercise is crucial, it can’t be the only approach. There’s a saying in fitness circles, “You can’t out exercise a bad diet.” And it’s true. Unless you eat real food, no amount of exercise will get you to your goals.
But what is a good diet? If only it were simple… If it were I’d list it right here. The reason that isn’t possible is that your food needs are unique. There are no one-size-fits-all answers.
But there is a way to figure it out. It’s called Metabolic Typing® (MT).
What is Metabolic Typing?
Over the last 35 years, MT has identified unique responses to foods. And since these are individual to each person, it shows you how to eat so you body is happy. When your body is happy, everything else is better. Just ask someone who is injured or ill.
Better health supports better work, better play and better relationships.
MT gets its data from a questionnaire you fill out online. It’s about 160 questions long. Most of it is multiple choice.
Sometimes people ask why there isn’t a lab test instead of a questionnaire. After all, isn’t lab work the gold standard for health issues?
In many cases lab work is helpful. But it can’t tell you everything. Most lab tests are like snapshots in time. Your blood or urine sample gets measured for specific components. But your urine and blood change all the time. 2 hours later they will be different. So there are limitations to what you can learn from a one-time collection.
A well-designed questionnaire, by contrast, is more like a motion picture. If you answer a question based on what’s true for you most of the time, you get a result that includes months, or even years of data. That’s pretty good.
The result is more accurate for determining your metabolic requirements than any lab test could be.
From this result, you get a list of color-coded foods. The colors tell you which foods support and deeply nourish your body. They also tell you neutral foods, caution foods and foods to avoid.
In addition, you learn how to fine-tune your eating so that you reach optimal performance. It’s a treasure trove of useful information.
How Do You Get MT Information?
There are three ways to learn what foods are right for you. The first is through the book, “The Metabolic Typing Diet” by William Wolcott and Trish Fahey. It has a lot of background information and a basic 60-question test.
However the test is very basic. It doesn’t go deeply into some important subtleties. Good for background, less good for getting your results.
There is also a “do-it-yourself” online version. It is the more comprehensive test that gives more detailed results. For less than $50 you can find out what foods are ideal for you. The website is www.metabolictypingonline.com.
The limitation here is that you won’t get any personalized support. I’ve had any number of people come in after getting these results so I can help them sort how to apply the information. I’m always happy to do that.
The most complete way to get your MT results is to go through a MT advisor. You will get much more personalized service. It is the best way to see results quickly. You needn’t work face-to-face with your advisor to succeed. I’ve worked with people as far away as Kazakhstan. Phone/Skype and email work perfectly well for distance appointments.
For a list of certified advisors, you can search online here: www.mt-advisors.info. Start by selecting the country you are in and follow the prompts.
