How to Reduce Your Risk of Catching the Flu This Year
The flu shot “public service” announcements are starting.
But is the shot really the best way to avoid the flu? Not really.
This article has three important sections. One points out the problems with the vaccine.
Another part of it gives you some very practical advice about how to reduce your exposure. Some of it will be reminders for you. Simple stuff like wash your hands. But there are more detailed recommendations as well.
The third part points out the flaws in how the dangers of the flu are reported. I found it eye-opening. For example, in 2001 the CDC reported that “influenza and pneumonia” took 62,034 lives.
But of these deaths, only 18 were positively identified as flu-related. That’s .029% of them. Less than 1/3 of 1%. Not exactly the high death toll the larger number implies.

How to Choose the Perfect Omega-3 Supplement
Millions of Americans take omega-3 supplements daily.
And there is good reason. Omega-3s help fight everything from arthritis and depression to macular degeneration and high triglycerides.
But if you are going to bother to take them, you should make sure you get the biggest bang for your buck.
The article has some good information. It includes recommendations of sources and dosages. To save you time, the best source is fish oil. And be sure that it has high levels of EPA and DHA.
There are cautions against taking too much, especially if you are prone to bleeding. Learn more by reading the article here.
Cancer, Heart Disease and Telomeres
Here is a simple way to fight disease and live longer.
The idea is based on telomere length. Long-time readers will know that telomeres (part of DNA) predict longevity. The longer they are, the longer you live.
Research shows that by increasing nitric oxide (NO), you take care of many problems at once.
NO helps rebuild telomeres. In addition, it fights cancer in a couple of ways. It also supports heart health by helping relax blood vessels. That’s a lot of benefit!
Although the article doesn’t mention it, NO also supports your muscles when you exercise.
Dr. Al Sears gives you 3 ways to increase NO in your body. Exercise and certain foods will help a lot. There are also supplements that will do it. One of my favorites is here. It’s a lemon-lime flavored powder you mix with water.

This Tasty Oil Could Protect You from GMO Damage
Readers will know that I have serious reservations about GMO foods.
But since they are in so many foods, it’s hard to avoid them completely. Is there a way to reduce their effects?
There may very well be. The answer? Extra virgin olive oil. This is good news since E V olive oil has many other health benefits.
Although the research was done on rodents, it isn’t too early to make sure you are getting some of this tasty oil in your diet. Better safe than sorry.
Also, you should be sure it’s 100% olive oil. Some oils have fillers that will reduce the beneficial effect.
