Vitamin C Supplementation Shows Promise for Menopausal Bone Loss

There is nothing better than a simple solution for a serious health problem.

A good example of this comes from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. They did a study that showed a protective effect against menopausal bone loss using vitamin C.

Doctors have known for a long time that vitamin C has an effect on bone density. But for some reason this information hasn’t translated into see about bone loss in menopause. Curious, isn’t it?

And when you take into account that the drugs you can get to increase bone density actually weaken bones, this looks like a promising alternative.

Belly Fat is Far More Dangerous than Having a Total BMI in Obese Range

The most common measure of health as it relates to fat is done using BMI. That’s short for Body Mass Index.

BMI is a simple weight-to-height ratio. Doctors often use it to classify people as overweight or obese.

But this way of measuring is flawed. For example, if someone works out and has a lot of muscle, their BMI can be quite high. This will be true even if they have very low amounts of body fat.

Now there is a study that shows BMI might be useless in determining health.

The study examined death rates in people with high BMI and people with what is called central obesity. This is fat gathered in the gut. Those with higher amounts had a much greater risk than even people with a high BMI.

Don’t Let Sugar Make You Stupid

Sugar, especially fructose, impairs memory.

This is the conclusion of research done at UCLA. They found that a high-fructose diet made learning and memory worse. That’s something you certainly want to avoid.

Fortunately, researchers also found a way to protect yourself from this problem. And the good news is that it involves a simple nutrient. As a Balance Point reader you’ve heard a lot about this nutrient. It’s Omega-3 fatty acid found in fish oil.

Understand that it is best to avoid sugar altogether. If you do, the benefits of Omega-3 is even greater.

You can learn more details about the study and what it really means on the Bottom Line Health site. See it here.

4 Natural Liver Cleansing Foods

Liver health is directly tied to your overall health.

The liver has over 300 known functions. That means that poor liver health could very well be the root cause of many diseases common today.

Toxic substances like high-fructose corn syrup can overload the liver. Over time this causes damage.

Add to that the barrage of toxins in everyday life and you can guess how hard your liver has to work.

The only way to avoid the buildup of toxins in the liver is to eat a nearly perfect diet free of additives, fillers, modified ingredients, or chemicals. That means never eating out and becoming a label detective.

Those are good ideas in general, but not always easy or practical for most people. Fortunately, there are foods that help your liver do a better job.

Thanks to Judy Persin for alerting me to this story. You can get a list of these foods on the Natural Society web site. You’ll find it here.
