Simple Test Found to Predict If You Will Get Alzheimer’s Within 5-10 Years

Alzheimer’s is an awful disease. It steals someone’s life away but leaves them intact otherwise.

That means avoiding it is a really good idea. The further ahead of time you know, the easier it is to stop or reverse the process.

Now there is a simple test that predicts the disease up to 10 year ahead of time. How simple? Just memorize a list of 15 words and repeat back as many as possible after about a minute.

If someone can’t do this well, they are much more likely to have memory loss within 10 years.

And if you add two more tests, the accuracy goes up more.

Learn about how many words are a good response at age 75 and the other tests in this article on Your Medical Detective. The article is here.

Does Carnitine From Red Meat Contribute to Heart Disease?

There is recent controversy about carnitine.

If you haven’t been following the story, here is the short version. Researchers have claimed that carnitine gets converted to a substance that causes hard arteries. And since red meat is rich in carnitine, it is implicated.

The mechanism the authors cite is based on a process in the intestines that transforms carnitine into the artery hardening TMAO.

But, as you might guess, the study is flawed. The ways it it flawed are many and varied.

If you are concerned about eating naturally raised red meat, you owe it to yourself to check out this information. You’ll find the article here.

Are You Overdosing On OTC Drugs?

People often think if they can get a drug over the counter it must be safe.

Sadly, that isn’t always true.

The key is to know how much you are taking and what side effects to watch for. And that is harder than it sounds.

This article talks about the most commonly misused OTC drugs. The list includes:

  • Acetaminophen
  • Acid Reflux Drugs
  • Nasal Decongestants
  • Laxatives

I like that each description talks about the dangers of these drugs. It also gives you solid information on how to avoid problems. If you take OTC medications, it’s worth the read. Get the details here.

What Your Pee Says About Your Health

One of the easiest ways to see inside the body is to notice what comes out of it.

You already know this. Think about the lab tests your doctor orders. They are always testing blood, urine and other body fluids.

But you don’t need a lab to get an idea of what’s going on inside. Sometimes just plain observation works just fine.

This article covers some good basics of what to look for in your urine. It talks about color, odor, foam, cloudiness, volume and frequency. Bet you didn’t know all of these tell you something about your health.

I recommend reading this article to get the details. Obviously, you shouldn’t freak out if you have just a bit of one or more of the urine qualities listed. But if you are concerned, it will give you and your doctor a good place to start. Often you will rule out problems, but it never hurts to know.

You can read the article here.

All the best to you for your health and happiness,
