Stroke: It’s On the Rise Among Younger People

I am still shocked by this information.

The first time that it became clear for me was 10 years ago when a young lady came in complaining of dizziness. It had come on suddenly.

When she called and gave her symptoms I asked how old she was. When she said she was 22, I remember thinking that all the symptoms were like a stroke. But I dismissed it because of her age.

Apparently so did the doctors at the ER where she had gone the previous day.

When asked about how she ate it was appalling. Nothing but sugar and starches. Soda and cereal at breakfast. Pasta at lunch. Almost no protein at all.

It turned out that she had another episode a week later. This time the MDs at the ER put it together. She’d had two strokes.

Here’s an article that talks about this frightening trend. And since stroke can occur at any age, it’s definitely worth a look.

Natural Dyed Easter Eggs

It’s that time of year again – Easter.

For many people, making colorfully dyed eggs is a tradition. But most of the time they use artificial colors.

However if you are concerned about the possible effects of anything artificial on your food, take heart. You can make beautiful colored eggs using nothing but natural ingredients.

This article is by a woman who did all the experimenting to see what would work. It’s worth the trip just for the pictures. There are lots of them! has the article. Thanks to Karen I. for sending this my way. You’ll find the info here.

Diet Soda Increases the Risk of Diabetes.

And that’s only one of the bad things about it.

Studies show diet soda also increases depression. That’s similar to how too much sugar can affect someone.

And the sweeteners in these drinks are also toxic to the liver. So they can’t be helping your health.

They also cause weight gain. How ironic. People are drinking this stuff trying to lose weight. It turns out that it stimulates appetite so they eat more. Hmmm…

Now a study shows that diet soda drinkers have a higher risk of getting diabetes. Researchers suspect that this is due to diet soda triggering sugar cravings.

Hopefully you aren’t one of those who think they are safe substituting these drinks for sugary soda. If you are, or of someone you know is like that, I recommend reading this article. You can see it here.

Two million kids have ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).

Although there are a lot of causes for it, recent research has found that some nutrients can reduce its effects.

Among the effective ingredients are fatty acids, magnesium and zinc. The list also includes amino acids, vitamins and probiotics.

The effect of these were less metabolic stress and less emotional problems in the children who took them.

I recommend you read the article for more details. There is also a link to the original in PDF form. You’ll find it here.

The 11 Scariest Things in Your Food

If you are eating processed food, you must read this article.

You should, at the very least, become a label detective. That means reading every ingredient in each packaged food you eat. You’ll be shocked.

What to look for? This article does a nice job of summarizing the worst culprits. It includes coloring, “natural flavoring”, doctored up fats and preservatives. There are also a couple of nasty surprises on the list.

I recommend you read the article to get the details. Find it here.
