Today, more news from the Alternative Medicine front.
This batch includes something for just about everyone. Tissue regeneration, hormone balance, an interesting use for acupuncture and even fake ‘health’ foods.
|6 Bodily Tissues That Can Be Regenerated Through NutritionFor years the consensus was that many organs and tissues can’t re-grow. But over time we’ve learned otherwise.
There is evidence that six different tissues can repair themselves given the right circumstances.
Here is a quick list of the six:
The article goes into great detail about all six tissues. Better yet, it offers natural ways to stimulate this re-0growth.

|Hypochondriac or Hypothyroid? There are any number of illnesses that are commonly misdiagnosed. Fibromyalgia & adrenal fatigue are two of the most common.
But there is another one – low thyroid.
Why do some doctors miss this? Partly because hormones are complex. All of your hormones interact. So if one is off, it can affect the others. Sometimes this happens in surprising ways.
And the diagnosis is not simple to begin with. Unless you check TSH, T4, T3 and even reverse T3, you can’t tell. And the adrenals may also be involved.
Dr. David Blyweiss gives the rundown on this process, including some specific suggestions for correcting it. If you or someone you know is being treated for low thyroid, but not feeling better, this is a must read article.
The Advanced Natural Medicine web site has the details here.
|Acupuncture & DysmenorrheaDysmenorrhea affects many women. Painful cramping during menstruation is all too common.
Sometimes medication helps. But it almost never helps all the symptoms.
A recent study tested the use of acupuncture to relieve these symptoms. As with most studies of this kind they standardized the treatment. I’ll mention why this is limiting in a moment.
The study was reported in the Journal of Alternative & Complementary Medicine in February of 2012. And they didn’t just use acupuncture, but electroacupuncture. That’s acupuncture with a mild current sent through the needles.
The results were encouraging. This isn’t surprising to those of us who do acupuncture.
What was surprising is that they only treated 2 points. To get this sort of results without modifying the treatment for each person is outstanding.
That’s the limit of this type of study. Standardized treatments can never work for everyone. Imagine how much more effective this can be when the treatment is adjusted for the unique person being treated.
The study is published on the Natural Standard site and the link is here.
|Fish oil is a natural blood thinner than rivals CoumadinYou may know that Coumadin is given to heart patients. You may also know it was originally used for rat poison.
Dr. Jonathan Wright offers an alternative. His choice? Fish oil.
The clue that fish oil is a good blood thinner is that if you take too much, you won’t coagulate easily. The difference between that and Coumadin is that fish oil isn’t toxic.
Sounds like a good alternative to me.
The trick is knowing how much is enough. Dr. Wright’s article offers general guidelines. And he offers specific cautions about this approach.
If you want to test how well it’s working, the standard test used for Coumadin won’t work. Dr. Wright also talks about the specific test to see how well fish oil is working for you.
And be sure to take vitamin E if you take fish oil.

|7 Health Foods Making You FatSmart people eat to be healthy. You’re probably one of them.
But some of the foods you think are healthy may not be. In fact, they may be doing just the opposite.
The general rule is to avoid processed food. If it comes in a jar, a can, a box, a bottle or a package, think twice. You don’t find foods in nature this way.
This list may not be news to Balance Point readers. But you may be surprised by one or two of these items.
I recommend you look over the list. If you are eating any of these, it may give you motivation to make changes.
You can see the list, along with details here.
All the best to you for your health and happiness,
